Letter addressed to Whytt, identified as "Physician to his Majesty & Professor of Physic at Edinburgh," in which Chalmers requests certain favors on behalf of his mother, and expressing concern over a manuscript for publication sent for Whytt's consideration. Other topics include a recent smallpox epidemic in Charleston, "more than 1500 have been Inoculated since the beginning of Jan[uar]y with very little loss ..." and expressing thanks "for admitting me to the honor of ... a member ... [of] your laudable society."
